2008 District of Columbia Judicial & Bar Conference Legal Ease: Simple Steps for Starting, Building, and Maintaining a Successful Law Practice- Jeffrey advised lawyers on employment law and personnel management issues in their law firms.
Legend of the DC Bar Program and Luncheon- Jeffrey moderated and prepared the program content for this annual program which provides a rare opportunity to learn about lives well spent in the law from highly respected private practitioners and raconteurs at the top of their game. This past years legends were:
Betty Southard Murphy has served as “Madame Chairman” of the NLRB (with kudos from organized labor, the NAM and U.S. Chamber of Commerce), Administrator of the Wage/Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor, and has held five other presidential appointments. A partner in Baker & Hostetler since 1980 and the first woman to head its Labor and Employment Practice and serve on its Management Committee, Mrs. Murphy has represented companies, unions and individuals in the U.S. and abroad. She has tried cases in 29 states, and appeared in nine U.S. Courts of Appeals, and the Supreme Court. She has been a mentor and trailblazer for women in the law and just received the 2006 American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the D.C. Circuit. She is an Adjunct Professor at the Washington College of Law, American University.
George H. Cohen has served as counsel to the Major League Baseball Player's Association, the National Basketball Players' Association, the American Federation of Musicians, the Theatrical and Television Motion Picture and Phonograph Records Special Payments Funds, and the National Symphony Orchestra Musicians. A former partner at Bredhoff & Kaiser, and Adjunct Professor, Georgetown Univ. Law Center, he has represented the AFL-CIO and the Steelworkers on groundbreaking labor and employee health cases, as well as teacher, police, and firefighter unions. He has been a labor negotiator in industries as diverse as public education, baseball, basketball, and hockey, and the entertainment industry (motion picture, recording, television, and Broadway musicals). Mr. Cohen has argued five landmark Supreme Court cases and over 100 appellate and federal court cases. He served with the NLRB from 1960-1966.
